Just wondering

I can't help but see things as analogies and I keep seeing the invasion of Iraq as analogous to someone having stolen a car while drunk and then driven it through a crowd of pedestrians and then crashed it into a building. The driver has escaped alive but the car has burst into flames which have spread to the neighbouring buildings.

As a witness to this disaster, you are amazed to hear people asking: What can we do to help the driver "win"... you do want him to win, don't know? Just as bizarrely, these people also seriously considering whether supplying him with another car would be a good idea.

I know people have a great capacity to normalize almost any situation but how is it that so many people have way gone beyond that and are legitimizing this criminal behaviour? Has everyone been drinking the Kool-Aid. I mean, WTF...?
