Ironic or perverse?

"We track library books better than we track pedophiles and kids that are missing" [...] "If I were one of these sickos, I'’d be nervous with America'’s Most Wanted on my trail"
-- Mark Foley, about a bill he helped sponsor that would call for death penalty for child molesters who kill their victims, 2006
"It's vile," said Rep. Mark Foley, R-West Palm Beach. "It's more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction."
--Mark Foley, commenting on Clinton's sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky, 1998.
It's bizarre, ironic, perverse... Mark Foley resigned immediately from the House of Representatives on Friday after it became public that he had sent inappropriate, sexually-suggestive e-mails and instant messages to congressional pages. Yet, he was co-chairman of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus and had introduced legislation in July to protect children from exploitation by adults over the Internet. He also sponsored other legislation designed to protect minors from abuse and neglect and was an outspoken critic of pedophiles.

Foley is responsible and will be held accountable for his actions but there are others who didn't perform their fiduciary responsibilities and, even worse, aided and covered up Foley's actions who have yet to be held to account.
