Kennedy on Minimum Wage

Over at The Liberal Journal, I saw a powerful video of Edward Kennedy getting passionate about Republican obstruction on the popular (among the public at large) and long overdue increase to the federal minimum wage -- something which does nothing more than restore the purchasing power of the minimum wage of ten years ago. It's a couple of bucks over a couple of years and those GOP'ers can't bring themselves to just pass the bill. What is it about these people that they can't just be decent to the poor working stiffs...? "Five days on the floor" debating this simple, popular, desperately important issue (to poor people, though hardly the Republican base) and the Republicans are filibustering by offering amendments (with 70+ to come) to stall the process.

"Five days...!" "What is the price that you want? that workers have to pay?" "When does the greed stop?" "What is it about this that drives you Republicans crazy?" Kennedy shouts with his voice breaking. "We don't want to hear anymore from the other side about denying up or down votes for the rest of this session".

Fucking evil hypocrites...

Bill, I don't know about you, but I watched that speech about ten times. I wish all Democrats were that passionate about everything.

Hell, I wish that some Democrats could be that passionate about some issues. I don't understand the reluctance, the fear, to do the right thing. What are they so afraid of? I just don't get it.
