Corruption, the gift that keeps giving...

There are lots of juicy revelations in the works as Jack Abramoff and his fellow rats prepare to desert the sinking GOP ship. Rumours abound that Jackoff (following in the footsteps of his partner, Michael Scanlon, who recently copped a plea) may be willing to spill his guts to prosecutors and the numbers of members of Congress hinted at are staggering.

"The concern is widespread because Abramoff's reach into the Capitol was so deep. According to an analysis by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, 210 current members of Congress have received contributions from Abramoff, his Indian tribe clients or SunCruz Casinos since 1999."

Apparently, we'll know by Tuesday because ReddHedd tells us that the trial judge has given him until then to "plead or go to trial".

And then there's the business of the illegal NSA wiretaps. Bush's Nixon imitation is chronicled and contrasted with Nixon's excesses in a good article by Suskind over at the Daily Kos in which he quotes John Dean as saying:

"Bush is the first President to admit to an impeachable offense."

"George W. Bush as the New Richard M. Nixon: Both Wiretapped Illegally, and Impeachably. Both Claimed That a President May Violate Congress' Laws to Protect National Security."

Ah, schadenfreude...!
